Hi! I’m Luanne Nelson, MSW, LCSW.

Welcome to Canyon Vista Counseling!

I’m so glad you’re here.

I know finding a therapist can be tough and how important connection and values can be in the therapy room. Within my practice, I am very committed to upholding the values of anti-racism, anti-oppression, LGBTQIA+ affirming and trauma-informed care. I recognize the profound impact of systemic discrimination and trauma on individuals' mental health and well-being. I strive to create a safe and inclusive space where all clients feel respected, valued and supported in their unique experiences. By integrating trauma-informed care into my practice, I aim to provide a healing environment that recognizes the pervasive effects of trauma and seeks to foster empowerment.

Luanne (she/they) is the owner of Canyon Vista Counseling, PLLC. She has both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Social Work, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (8432-C) in the state of Arkansas. She has a wide range of therapeutic experiences, including exploring intersecting identities, healing generational wounds, recovering from traumatic experiences, managing anxiety and depression, navigating systems, and advocating for change.

Luanne is a trained trauma therapist and utilizes EMDR, ACT, Mindful Self-Compassion, Ego State, creativity and mindfulness techniques in her work with individuals. She believes in empowering individuals to play an active role in their treatment process, and will always seek to have you at the forefront of your therapeutic treatment. Luanne believes in approaching each session with compassion, openness and a focus on empowering clients to be more connected with themselves.

As a biracial Taiwanese American, Luanne also understands balancing cultural traditions and individual identities can be difficult. She loves supporting clients in exploring their racial identities and addressing generational wounds and patterns.

Prior to becoming a therapist, Luanne studied art. She believes in the power creativity can ignite within us. Luanne spent her first three years in the Social Work field working within the therapeutic foster care system in Arkansas. Afterward, she transitioned to working with adults and couples in an outpatient group practice in North Little Rock, with specialties including LGBTIA+ issues, trauma recovery, anxiety and depression.

When she’s not at the office, you can find her outdoors. Luanne loves exploring the world, taking in the beauty of nature, camping, hiking, kayaking, creating art, building models, spending time with loved ones and playing with her two pups.
